Liesl D Hinkly began her training in London in 1999, having first explored an interest in bodywork while working as a massage therapist in South America and South Africa.
She qualified as a Myofascial Release Bodyworker in 2001 in Boulder, Colorado, and went on to complete her training at the Rolf Institutes of Brazil and Munich.
Central to Liesl’s fascination with Rolfing is the territory of body re-education and how this can start the process of healing: the way we live in and relate to our body determines its capacity for change. Through change we grow. Rolfing nurtures this unique relationship between the body and change and puts people back in touch with their lives.
Liesl also works as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. Somatic Experiencing is a pioneering technique to support the body while it re-negotiates the effects of trauma, which can get trapped within its layers for many years. By using this powerful combination of Rolfing and Somatic Experiencing, Liesl’s work brings peace and relief to sufferers of post-traumatic stress disorder and its associated symptoms. This dual approach can change your body’s experience of being alive.
Liesl has built a flourishing practice between London and Brighton over the last ten years. Working with The New Medicine Group on Harley Street for four of those years she was the first practitioner to bring Rolfing to this internationally renowned street.
Liesl Rolfs individuals ,children and families and has earnt a reputation as a highly intuitive and perceptive bodyworker .
” I find my work a constant source of inspiration:sensing my clients potential is a dynamic driving force. I am passionate about the future of Rolfing and Somatic Experiencing and their place in the British Complementary Health arena.”
My rolfing treatment facilitated a profound level of physical and emotional development. I grew through the experience knowing that my reaction to this work was entirely what I needed, even though it was not always what I expected.
The treatment was measured, highly supportive, relevant and authentic. I felt implicitly guided by Liesl to a place that was fully appropriate for me and my stage of development. Although the work was intense at times, we did not “shy away” from anything, Liesl ensured we worked at a suitable pace that resulted in sustained growth.
Throughout the experience I felt a deep bodily awareness of responding to a hugely beneficial process on many levels. Whilst this was not always tangible, I am now far more in the body, grounded, and have access to a physicality, physical resilience and body awareness that had previously eluded me.
Rolfing is an experience that I recommend all actors undergo, not as a luxury but as a prerequisite for development.
